What are your views on convincing an ebay seller to end their auction early and swing a deal with you off ebay. Forget about the fact that it is against ebay policy.
How far would you go to get them to end early and sell to you? Would you bombard them with emails and phone calls? Would you weave a tale about yourself, your collecting etc? Is this ethical? we already know it's a violation of ebay's terms of use but ta hell with that nonsense.
For me, I guess it would have to be what the item was or how bad I really wanted it.

I do it all the time and have scored some great stuff, 59 Sugar Bowl watch, 59 Sugar Bowl Chinese Bandit pennant. I didnt get GREAT deals on the items, $850 for the watch and $400 for the pennant. I just didnt feel like fighting for it.
I am guessing you bring this up due to the Cannon ribbon that was taken down today. Who ever talked him into taking it down is not going to be happy, I talked him into putting it back up. He said he refunded the money sent to him!!!

As a seller, I've taken items down before because some one made a great offer.
Like I said before, I offer outside buys all the time but I will not rip the guy off, I will make him a decent offer.

I am guessing you bring this up due to the Cannon ribbon that was taken down today. Who ever talked him into taking it down is not going to be happy, I talked him into putting it back up. He said he refunded the money sent to him!!! It has always been something I have liked discussing with buyers and sellers. I bring it up today because of the Cannon ribbon though. Seller told me Greg was the buyer and that he sold it to him for not much at all,. Insinuated well under $100, my feeling is less than $50. . HE stated he didn't normally pull an auction but he was growing tired of the emails and several phone calls to his home. Plus he referenced something about someone being sick and how this ribbon would mean a lot to them if they got it while they were still here. He was somewhat vague with details.... I'm not sure when you had your communication with the seller but as of 330 pm BR time he was going thru with the deal. He did indicate he MIGHT have access to 2 others and to look at his auctions on sunday so when did the seller tell you he was not going thru with the sale??

I'll tell you exactly what happened, and will forward the emails to any who want. I sent him an email within hrs of him listing it. I asked him what he wanted. He told me $100, and I was the first person he made this offer too. I told him my story and he liked it. I old him last night I would accept his offer. He called me this morning and talked to me for over 30 mins and loved talking to me and said the reason he was willing to sell it to me was because he lovedMy passion for collecting,ESP vintage items, at my age. And the fact that I don't sell my collection like others. I then paid him and he said he was going to ship it today. As far as I am concerned, we made a deal on an offer he offered and it was paid, therefore, like I said as far as I am concerned it is mine. Then everyone emailed him all mad bc I did the same thing they all do. And others got him to relist it. For the record, he called me, I never called him. I called him once after he told me he was going to have to further think about it and that's it.

I didn't see it listed, I saw it discussed on Facebook. I contacted him just after 3:30 saying I'd beat any offer, never really making a money offer. He replied saying he was contacted by several people and decided to refund the money he received. He never told me what the selling price was. He said he didn't know he had the "Mona Lisa" (exact words), and probably realist it Sunday or Monday.
I replied that my offer would have been $400 and it will probably sell for more than that.

HOLY SHITE! $400 I told him I would have bid $175 and there was a good chance he would have gotten more. I never told him he should not follow thru on the deal. I would have felt I had over paid a tiny bit at $175. I can't see it going for over $400 and hell it would take at least 2 bidders to get it that high. He did tell me he had 2 buddies that likely had theirs, he told me the story of how they got them, he was at the ceremony if I read it correctly. He said a little more $$$ over what he got wasn't that big a deal BUT if he got $400 in his mind , well thats a huge difference. Hell I am far from mad about not getting it. I told him I knew it was greg and he said I was quite intuitive so he never really told me flat out it was greg, It is a sweet item though, thats for sure!....... $400 that's the kind of over pay that ebay sellers live for. It's possible he realized telling me he had access to 2 more and was re-listing sunday was a tactical error on his part. No need to let buyers know theres 2 more, so don;t over bid on the first of the 2.... I spoke to him first, actual message time on ebay was 3:14.... so 2 ebay messages telling him screwed up and lost money within 15 minutes or so, LOL no wonder he said mona lisa and POSSIBLY did the old okie doke to olegreg..... It's hard knocks in the ole ebay game!!!
