Some one was asking me about this recently.......what would be your exit strategy in case of an emergency for your collection. Hurricanes and flooding seem like they could be planned for....but fires could pose a tough split second decision....risk life and limb to toss some items out fo the window? Any thing ever happen to you guys that is worth sharing?

Mine is covered under my home owners. My collection is upstairs, so I'm not going up there if a fire ever breaks out

yep...covered under insurance is always a good idea......seems like the cash wouldnt be much of a consolation prize though.

Being that I am in the fire protection business, I have a pretty extensive Fire alarm/Suppression system in my Garage. It's not the most practical or cost efficent thing for normal people but I am able to maintain and serservice it. I have an escape pack in my truck 24/7 for work and in the case of a fire, I could enter with it but chances are in the case of a fire, if the Halon dosent get it, it's gone. By the time I knew it was on fire, it would be to late. The escape pack would be used to go back into my home to get my kid or wife. No ones life is worth material things.
I hope it's nothing any of us have to deal with, but having coverage is your best bet
Going on what AT said, I have an extensive insurance policy for replacement cost (not that all items could be) but if that ever happens, I know I will get what it's valued at. The tricky thing about that is, esp with people like us who are constantly updating their collection, you have to have to stay on top of it. You have to update your value, items and pics regularly. Catologing is also important. If a tornado hits, I'm just screwed, and as I am prone to flooding, I just watch the weather closely lol. (notice all my items of any value are high off the ground lol).
